The Wolf and The Girl

Inspired by Chiara Bautista’s drawing.

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived inside her own mind. She was always thinking about her emotions, her tiny little own places and planets. In the summer, she used to spend nights laid down in the grass looking to the moon and the stars, imagining what it would be if it was a living thing. Every single night she was out there, telling them her secrets, her thoughts, her feelings. She opened her heart and bleed out searching for answers that never came. In one single night she was so tired of the blindness in her wounded heart that she didn’t even care about freezing to death in the cold wind of winter. Then the moon feeling sorry about the little naïve girl made for her a blanket with the deep black sky and the shine bright stars, and send her in a form of a wolf. He wrapped her in his warm fur and she immediately stopped crying and freezing. When the sun came and the girl waked up she suddenly felt happy. She was always sad in the mornings, because her beloved moon had disappeared, but now she would always have her piece of the moon and the stars in a partner. The wolf followed her everywhere she used to go. She never felt alone anymore. One freezing cold day, the wolf was almost dying even still trying to protect her from the cold. So she kneeled before him and made him a coat with everything she had: her heart. Since that day they become one, sharing the same heart, the same blood, the same secrets. One day he would have to leave, she knew that, and he would take part of her heart within. But until then, she would allow herself to love him deeply and to be loved in return.
